Would you believe two of the top five albums in the nation right now? Their new LP Strange Days was #3 on Billboard magazine's Top LP's chart, and their first album The Doors was right behind it at #4. "People Are Strange" was still in the national Top 40, and this month "Love Me Two Times" was released. Meanwhile, Procol Harum was touring behind their ever-popular big hit from that summer, "A Whiter Shade of Pale."
Opening act Mount Rushmore was a San Francisco band of the late 60's that played typical blues-rock with psychedelic touches. The five-piece had formed in a Victorian house in Haight-Ashbury in early 1967, and did a lot of gigging in the Summer of Love as support for the biggest bands. They released a single in '68, a cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Stone Free" on Dot Records, but the group never gained a foothold commercially and eventually splintered.
Poster-designer Blashfield was mostly known as a multi-media artist and made his name by creating MTV-era music videos for Michael Jackson, Joni Mitchell, Talking Heads, Tears for Fears, Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel and others.
