Description
Screen-used hero "Nautilus" undersea rifle from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. (Disney, 1954) Few films have captured the imagination of viewers like Disney's 1954 epic science fiction adventure 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, adapted from Jules Verne's book of the same name. The film's production designer was the legendary Harper Goff-one of the primary designers of Disneyland. The interior / exterior design of Capt. Nemo's fantastic Nautilus submarine and its futuristic (for the 19th Century) equipment fused the elegance of the Victorian-era with the Industrial Age. This is an incredibly rare and iconic hero metal Nautilus rifle used in the exciting underwater sequences in the film. Constructed of aluminum, brass, steel and braided cable (to mimic the air hose), the rifle measures 33.5 in. long featuring a stylized "N" cast into the side of the aluminum stock. The front muzzle has been sympathetically restored to the finest detail using brass and aluminum fittings with hand-pounded rivets utilizing production photographs for reference, bringing the rifle back to its former glory. Exhibits overall oxidation due to age with the typical wear from production use. Comes with a custom-built display stand created in the Industrial Age theme. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was Disney's first science fiction film, and the only film of the genre personally produced by Walt Disney. Exceedingly rare, this has the distinction of being the first and only hero Nautilus rifle to ever reach the auction block.
