Original matte painting from Chocolate Soldier. (MGM, 1941) Vintage black and white matte painting accomplished in pencil, pastels, gouache, chalk and charcoal on 28 x 22 in. artist board. Depicting a marquee for "Double Eagle Café" for the musical Chocolate Soldier starring Nelson Eddy and Rise Stevens. Featuring the magnificent marquee The Eagle Café. Meticulous pinholes have been made in the marquee so that when the painting is illuminated from behind they appear as lights. With handwritten technical specs and scenic notes in the borders. Exhibiting minor signs of production-use and age. Overall in vintage, very good condition.
