Description

James Brown 1972 Cobo Arena, Detroit Jumbo Globe Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising the great James Brown in concert at Detroit's Cobo Arena on Friday evening, October 20, 1972. The Godfather of Soul had advertised his late 60's concerts as "A Show for the Entire Family," but you knew that was a bygone era when you saw this poster with "Sex" on it three times. The poster features a dynamic red & black design depicting Mr. Dynamite in action. It's also nice that it shows nine song titles, spanning 1958 to '71. Made by Globe Poster, measures 22" x 30 5/8" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Four sets of staple-hole areas are present, none of them in the margins. These staple remnants are not just two tiny pinpricks, they're a little messy. They land: In the "A" of "Arena"; in the "2" of "20"; in the "B" of "Brown"; to the immediate left of "Hot Pants," but not hitting the quote marks; and in the lower right corner area to the right of the microphone stand. None of these harm the integrity of the poster's powerful imagery. The board also has a couple of other light surface marks, including a five-inch vertical scrape to the right of the microphone stand, revealing a combination of red & white underneath, so it sort of looks like the design. Also, general toning throughout. The verso has "Detroit 1972" written in what looks like dark pencil at the top.
