Description

Ray Park "Darth Maul" Stunt Lightsaber with FX Blades from Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace with George Lucas Signed LOA (TCF, 1999). Original lightsaber prop used for dueling sequences in Episode I. Crafted of urethane resin with a metal threaded rod running through it and protruding from each end to attach two 33.75" plastic-coated, orange aluminum FX "blades" for the actors to use to fight with on set. Each end cap of the Saber is machined from aluminum to help balance the saber for when the actor spins it around on set (one end is engraved with the identification code "JAK LSS 26). The main body is expertly finished in metallic silver paint with black line-detailing. The red "buttons" on the main body were removed and painted at the request of actor Ray Park who stated it helped him with wielding and twirling the saber during fights. The included LOA signed by George Lucas (on Lucasfilm Ltd. stationery) reads: "This letter will certify the authenticity of the Darth Maul stunt lightsaber (Number JAK LSS 26) offered for sale as part of the eBay Auction for America 2001. This lightsaber was used by Ray Park in his role as Darth Maul during the filming of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. During the filming of some of the fight sequences, Ray used the lightsaber with the attached brightly colored rods. The rods were later replaced for the film with a brilliant glow effect by the digital animators at Industrial Light & Magic." The lightsaber measures 21" (without threaded rods) and measures 89" with FX "blades" installed. Exhibits production wear with minor scuffs to paint. The aluminum FX "blades" exhibits scattered minor dents and warpage from the dueling on set with plastic coating showing scuffing and minor wrinkling. This represents the best-documented Darth Maul lightsaber we have ever encountered. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
