Description
Bicentennial Man (Touchstone Pictures, 1999), Robin Williams "Andrew" Hero Head Appliance and Hand. Original hero costume elements from the film adaptation of Isaac Asimov's The Positronic Man, including (1) 2-piece head appliance crafted from vacuum-formed plastic and foam rubber, designed to resemble Robin Williams as the humanoid robot Andrew, and (1) hand prop constructed from vacuum-formed plastic built over a leather glove with a metal cuff and articulated, segmented fingers featuring hard metal bearings. Head appliance features a foam rubber face over a rigid resin jaw and nose, with robotic elements including futuristic ears, an intricately detailed wire-and-electronic "brain," and a helmet-like shell with two spring-like wires extending down the neck. One eyebrow was mechanically designed to raise and lower-though the left eyebrow piece is now missing. A marked bias label reading "Williams" written in black magic marker appears on one of the rear appliance components, denoting that the piece was worn or designed specifically for the actor. This version of the appliance was used after Andrew's first upgrade, reflecting a slightly more refined and human-like facial structure. The multi-piece mask was applied in stages during filming and is mounted on a Styrofoam form labeled: "Adam Martin Stg 2 / You Go Go Dude." Mask measures approx. 11" x 8" x 11"; form measures 19" x 12"; glove measures 8" x 4.5" x 3". Designed by Steve Johnson, these hero pieces represent some of the most distinctively crafted costume elements in science fiction cinema-engineered to highlight Williams' expressive physicality while preserving the robotic character design. The mask exhibits foam rubber cracking around the chin, mouth, and nose, with a significant tear on the left cheek. The exterior helmet shows scuffing, light cracking, and separation from its original housing, with one piece missing from the rear translucent panel. The leather on the glove has deteriorated, and three of the "lobster" segments have loosened or detached from the main glove component. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.Auction Info
