Description

Beetlejuice (Warner Bros., 1988) Geena Davis "Barbara Maitland" Tongue and Eyes from Transformation Sequence, Alec Baldwin "Adam Maitland" Finger Eye, and Photographic Background. Original pair of signature props from Tim Burton's 1988 horror-comedy classic Beetlejuice, including (1) grotesque foam rubber pink extended tongue with a pair of swiveling acrylic eyeballs, used in the transformation sequence when Barbara Maitland (Geena Davis) attempts to scare the new residents of her and Adam's (Alec Baldwin) home, measuring approx. 12" long and 4" wide, with 1.5" diameter eyeballs. Also included is (1) acrylic "finger eyeball" with an attached red foam stalk and green pupil, designed with a hollow interior to be worn on a finger, measuring approx. 2.5" x 1.5". Also includes a 40" x 30" photographic background of the Maitlands' house, printed on resin-coated paper, which was used in the stop-motion transformation sequence. A signed letter from animator Tim Lawrence is included, reading in part: "Hi / My name is Tim Lawrence and I did the replacement animation / transformations for Tim Burton's 'Beetlejuice' (1988)... This is the Back-Ground photographed and cut into the movie / as part of the replacement animation effect. / Tim Lawrence [signature] / Adam and Barbara Transformation Animation (1987) / Beetlejuice." Tongue exhibits extensive cracking to the foam and paint elements, particularly around the center, tip of the tongue, ridged areas and on the backside. Finger eyeball retains glue residue and slight separation around the central portion of the eyeball where the viscera is attached. The background photo shows rolling, creasing, pin holes and one 1.5" area of image loss where a portion of the surface has cracked off. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
