Description

Robert McCall Early 1970s Concept Artwork for Pyramid, Unrealized Douglas Trumbull Film (ca. 1970s). Vintage original concept painting by visionary space artist Robert McCall, accomplished in graphite, watercolor, gouache, ink, artist's marker, and acrylic on 40" x 30.25" artist's board. Created for Pyramid, an unproduced sci-fi project by special effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull (Silent Running, 1972), the artwork features a large space rover rendered in McCall's signature hyper-realistic style. Though the film was shelved due to studio upheaval at MGM, the piece reflects the same futuristic vision seen in McCall's celebrated work for 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), and The Black Hole (1979). McCall, also known for his official NASA commissions, was instrumental in shaping the visual language of cinematic space exploration. Signed "McCall" at lower right. Exhibits light display and edge wear with minor soiling. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
