United States Air Force Dress Uniform (ca. 1980s). Original United States Air Force (3) piece dress uniform made for and worn by Lt. Col. Joseph Delmar Maher Jr. (Ret.) consisting of (1) navy blue wool service cap with lustrous silver bullion "Clouds and Darts" embroidery on black cloth to visor, silver Great Seal emblem to crown, with black leather cross-strap over visor and retaining original identification card to inside printed, "Joseph Delmar Maher, Jr. / Lieutenant Colonel / United States Air Force", (1) matching navy wool officer's jacket with shoulder epaulettes with silver-colored buttons and nickel-plated USAF Lieutenant Colonel rank insignia to each shoulder, notch lapels with silver-colored "U.S." pins to each lapel, Pilot Wing pin to left breast, and numerous decorations and ribbons including commendation for service in the Korean War, World War II Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Air and Space Organizational Excellence, Army Occupation Medal, and Presidential Unit Citation among many others. Lt. Col. Maher was a graduate of the Sorbonne in France and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he became a Civil Engineer. During his time in the Air Force, he was a fighter pilot assigned to Alaska, Japan, Turkey, and Italy among other places. He passed away in 2008. His uniform is accompanied by his army-issued dog tags as well as an undated transmittal envelope to the consignor. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
