Description

Bob Dylan 1965 "Nobody Sings Dylan Like Dylan" Promotional Stand-Up. A fun little Columbia Records easel-backed point-of-purchase promo standee for Bob Dylan's catalog plus his latest offering, the legendary 1965 album Highway 61 Revisited. This obviously has similarities to the Bringing It All Back Home promo stand-up two lots ago, except this time Columbia made it a little bigger, added a marketing phrase they had developed for Dylan, and included mini's of his catalog to fill out the display. Many promo posters over the decades followed this pattern, with the latest album shown being the current record. This was made for the countertops of record and department stores, and was undoubtedly made in a tiny quantity and then most of them were thrown away within a year. The box frame measures 15 1/4" x 17 3/4" and the stand-up grades to Very Good condition. From the Mitch Barth Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Further adding to the intrigue of these two Dylan Columbia stand-up's is that on first blush, you might think it's the exact same (Daniel Kramer) photo of Dylan playing a Fender Stratocaster in the studio. But look closely... they're slightly different shots! His right hand strumming and the distance between his shoes are the biggest tells. They could've literally been one frame apart on Kramer's film.

The writer of this description, Pete Howard of Heritage, used to own this item for many years in his collection. That's me, and I'm the one who had it very carefully and expertly framed, using UV-Plexiglas so that it would tone no further and never fade. It is also suspended in the frame by clear plastic edge holders, so it could easily be freed from the frame with no effort... it would tumble right out once you took off those plastic holders. This was intentional, of course; any good collector insists that their framed valuables be completely free of any tape, glue or foreign adhesive materials.

Condition details: Display has several folding and creasing spots. Notice the significant fold across Dylan's chin, but there's no danger of detachment. The backside hasn't been seen in decades due to the frame, but I recall it being fine and not an issue, with the easel certainly still there.
