Description

KISS, New York Dolls, BOC 1974 Baton Rouge, LA Globe Concert Poster. An original jumbo cardboard window card advertising a concert at Independence Hall in Baton Rouge, Louisiana starring Blue Oyster Cult and with a pair of legendary bands billed underneath: KISS and the New York Dolls. The show took place on Tuesday, July 16, 1974 and was presented by Beaver Productions of New Orleans.

It's pretty stunning to see such a pair of bands in the runner-up position behind a mid-level journeyman touring band such as Blue Oyster Cult, who never had a Top 20 album. But everyone had to start somewhere. At the time of this tour, BOC had not even had a Top 50 album yet. Neither had KISS, who only had their debut LP out so far, Kiss. In two months they would go into the studio and record Hotter Than Hell. And the glitter-rock Dolls with David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain were never about the charts at all, but were driven by a large and intense cult following of their proto-punk stance. They would break up a couple of years after this, but their impact and influence would last for decades to come.

A first-time Heritage offering and the only one we've ever seen. Measures 22" x 30 3/4" and grades to repaired Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: At first glance it might appear the top was cut off this poster, but no; it's just an unusual Globe design.

Condition details: Poster has had some edge tears and creasing mended by Chameleon Restoration, our go-to paper conservator and concert-poster specialist. The board was once folded in half across the middle, but has been flat forever and luckily that horizontal crease falls between the orange "clouds" and somehow skirts around "Special Guest Stars" and "And Featuring." There was a crease between the Dolls and KISS photos which has been minimized and do nothing to the pictures themselves. There was some corner repair and restoration done, and small instances of some black lettering being darkened back in up at the top. There is also a one-inch tear/crack on the right edge, in the upper right corner area directly across from the "6" and nowhere near any print.
