Get Smart (CBS TV, 1965-1970), Don Adams "Maxwell Smart" Fireplace Log Phone. Vintage original prop fireplace log phone from the American spy sitcom Get Smart, comprised of lightweight balsa wood, carved and studio-painted with a thick brown paint to resemble a wooden log, with inset plastic rotary dial, affixed metal ear- and mouthpieces, and brown-painted telephone cord ending in a four-prong plastic socket plug. The prop phone can be seen answered by Maxwell Smart (Don Adams) in Season 1, Episode 23, "I'm Only Human", when the spy gets a call on the "Secret Agent's Hotline", perhaps a play on the fireplace in which the phone is located. Props like this one compliment a long list of gag props used in the series that heavily parodied the secret agent genre. Other iconic prop phones Smart used throughout the series include ones made from shoes, ties, watches, glasses, address books, fire hydrants, cigarette lighters, and ice cream cones. Item measures 14.5" x 2.5" and is mounted on a fabric-covered wooden frame measuring 11" x 22.75" with plaque display to bottom. Exhibits production wear and age.
