Description
Get Smart (CBS TV 1965-1970), Don Adams "Maxwell Smart" Signature Shoe Phone. In a crowded concert hall, a phone rings out from somewhere unknown, causing a ruckus amongst the audience. A man in a tuxedo looks around sheepishly, shuffles out of his seat, and heads for a nearby coat closet. There, he takes off his shoe, unscrews the heel, flips open a transmitter and answers what is now apparent to be a phone built into the bottom of his shoe: "This is Smart, Maxwell Smart. Agent 86". And with that opening scene, one of the most beloved sitcom gags of all time was born, one that would span 138 episodes over 5 seasons and stretch a litany of other prop phones made out of ice cream cones, address books, fire hydrants, neckties, wristwatches, fireplace logs, and just about any household and everyday appliance one could think of. But it is the first gag prop the series introduced, the shoe phone, that stands above all the others as the single-most memorable prop from the series, and the one that became synonymous with Agent 86, better known as Maxwell Smart (Don Adams).Presented here is a vintage original signature prop shoe phone, constructed from a pair of black leather Venetian loafers, with telephone components built into the bottom of the right shoe including a rotary dial and a metallic hinged flip-up microphone embedded beneath the toe, with circuit board components including soldering marks, capacitors, and mesh wiring to mimic phone cables, and "speaker" component constructed of a black-painted metal disc embedded beneath heel. Both shoes exhibit production wear and age including scuffs to the soles and overall leather, and a tear to the upper heel leather of the right shoe. Metallic speaker-grate detached from sole but present. Heel cover for the right shoe not present. One of the most iconic television props of all time, this instantly recognizable shoe phone retains an iconographic quality, symbolic of both the ingenuity and playfulness that went into the prop design and overall ethos of Mel Brooks and Buck Henry's beloved series. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From The Stewart Berkowitz Television Treasures Collection.
