Captain Kangaroo (CBS TV, 1955-1984), Bob Keeshan "Captain Kangaroo" Signature Red Suit Jacket. Vintage original red suit jacket with white fabric piping, notch lapels, gold-toned buttons, and 3- Western-style flap pockets, retaining internal bias label typed, "Robert Keeshan" "4-16-71" "8031", as worn by Captain Kangaroo (Bob Keeshan) on the beloved, long-running children's show, Captain Kangaroo. Bob Keeshan lovingly embodied the affable titular character of his own show, which began in 1955 and ran for almost 30 years, becoming the longest-running nationally broadcast children's program of its day. In May 1971, the show made a major change by shifting the Captain's jacket from its original navy blue to the fire-engine red seen here. This may have been in response to the show's change from black-and-white to color as well as to appeal to a fresh audience. Based on the date typed onto the jacket's internal label, from April 1971, it is possible that this was the very first red jacket used on the program when the switch between jackets was made in May. Exhibiting mild production age and wear and is accompanied by 2- blonde wigs for display purposes. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
