Description

The Munsters (CBS TV, 1964-1966), Fred Gwynne "Herman Munster" Signature Flat-Top Prosthetic Headpiece. Vintage original (1) piece foam latex prosthetic head appliance, production-made for Herman Munster (Fred Gwynne), the Frankenstein-esque patriarch on the CBS sitcom, The Munsters, professionally detailed and studio-painted to include all the hallmarks of the immediately recognizable Universal monster, including pronounced eyebrows, flat-top skull, forehead scars, and iconic cranial clamps. Retains lace netting to rear base of neck for attaching wig. Marked "F.G. 64'" to top of skull from interior etching transferred from the original plaster mold. Mounted on a custom-made fiberglass bust expertly-finished to resemble Gwynne as Herman Munster. Bust displays professional detailing including acrylic eyes, affixed eyelashes, resin teeth and tongue, and applied resin bolts to each side of the neck to complete Munster's visage. Head appliance measures approx. 7" x 9" x 6" with bust measuring approx. 10" x 9" x 7" and affixed to a 6.5" black metal bust peg on a 10" x 10" black metal base. Prosthetic exhibits desiccation from expected production use, wear, and age, including chips and deterioration resulting in surface loss to the latex. Bust presents well with paint and components largely in tact, with an area of chipping to the right ear exposing the underlying fiberglass core. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From The Stewart Berkowitz Television Treasures Collection.
