Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) Hero Longsword from Game of Thrones (HBO® Original 2011-2019, Season 1). Original hero longsword measuring 45" x 9", studio-crafted from aluminum with a high-density rubber crossguard, hilt and pommel. Painted in elaborate gold colors, with a white grip and Lannister lion's head pommel. This hero sword appears in Season 1, Episode 5, "The Wolf and the Lion," and was used for close-up shots in the epic swordfight between Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Ned Stark (Sean Bean). This battle showcases skill versus power, with Jaime using flashier moves while Stark overpowers his Lannister foe. The battle ends as quickly as it begins when a Lannister soldier pierces Stark's calf with his spear. Tommy Dunne, the show's armorer, meticulously designed Jaime's hero sword to reflect his character's status and fighting style. "Jaime's sword needed to be visually striking and embody his noble lineage and exceptional skill as a swordsman. We incorporated intricate details and a high-polish finish to make it stand out on screen," Dunne explained. "The blade features subtle engravings and a finely crafted hilt, echoing the Lannister lion and their house colors. We wanted it to be recognizable even in fast-paced action scenes." Dunne further elaborated on the practical aspects of the sword's design. "The hero sword was balanced perfectly to allow Nikolaj to perform both swift, flashy maneuvers and more powerful strikes. It had to be durable enough for the intense choreography, yet light enough for agility. The hilt was custom-shaped to ensure a firm grip, which is crucial for the realistic portrayal of a master swordsman." Nikolaj Coster-Waldau highlighted the importance of the sword in portraying Jaime's character. "The hero sword is an extension of Jaime. It's not just a weapon; it's a symbol of his identity and prowess as one of the greatest swordsmen in Westeros," Coster-Waldau said. "Tommy Dunne's design work made it easy to step into Jaime's shoes and bring that part of him to life. The sword felt like a part of me during those scenes."
