Description

Pan's Labyrinth (Tequila Gang, 2006), Carlos Giménez - Fig Tree Concept Illustration Original Art (ca. 2006). This evocative two-panel concept art piece explores the harrowing environment beneath the ancient fig tree where Ofelia must retrieve a magical key. The first image conjures an unsettling world of writhing roots and organic decay, while the second introduces Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) , entangled in the gnarled undergrowth. Giménez's cartoonish renderings of Ofelia draw clear parallels to Alice in Wonderland, yet still convey the protagonist's resolve to complete her quest-beginning with the first mystical task assigned by the Faun (Doug Jones): retrieving the key from the belly of the giant toad. Carefully rendered textures and sweeping organic lines immerse the viewer in the film's darkly imaginative tone. A vivid example of the design work that shaped the haunting fairy tale landscapes of Pan's Labyrinth. Created in graphite with an image area of 7.25" x 10.5"; plexiglass front framed to 14.75" x 20". Exhibits light handling. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.

"Carlos Giménez is one of Spain's greatest living comic book artists of all time. His albums 'Paracuellos', set in an Orphanage during Franco's Spain were fundamental to my generation and greatly prompted me to attempt The Devil's Backbone. We collaborated in that movie and then again in Pan's Labyrinth. He was a key piece in these films. He is, and forever will be, a blessing in my life. His craft, ability, and powerful memory and imagination helped shape the period, the details, and the feel of the film." From the personal collection of Guillermo del Toro.
