Description
Wacky Back-Whacker Machine (807-298) Model Kit AFA 80 ** POP 1, Highest Grade ** (Aurora, 1965). Aurora's Working Model Series was one of the company's most outrageous experiments of the 1960s, offering hobbyists "functioning" gag contraptions that felt like something out of a cartoon inventor's workshop. Among them, the Wacky Back-Whacker Machine remains one of the most infamous. Released in 1965, the kit allows builders to assemble a fully operating device where turning the crank powers a system of gears and ratchets that ultimately swings a paddle against a hapless prisoner's backside, delivering the kind of slapstick punishment that defined Aurora's tongue-in-cheek marketing of the era. This example has been preserved in acrylic and graded AFA 80 NM, representing the only copy documented at this level and the highest graded known. The encapsulation secures an extraordinary survivor of Aurora's humor-driven line, a piece that is seldom encountered in any condition more than half a century after its release. For collectors, the Wacky Back-Whacker Machine stands as both a curiosity and a time capsule. It is a reminder of a moment when Aurora was willing to push boundaries and embrace absurdity, creating model kits that were equal parts toy, gag, and mechanical oddity. Rarely seen today, especially in high grade, it embodies the humor, eccentricity, and inventiveness that make Aurora's mid-1960s catalog so endlessly collectible.
