Description
Batman Tin Battery-Operated Batmobile (AHI, 1972). Blasting in from the early '70s with vintage flair, this first-issue tin Batmobile by AHI/Azrak Hamway is a bold tribute to Batman's golden age in toy form. Released in 1972 and modeled after the same iconic body mold used by Cien Ge in Japan, this blue Batmobile stands out with its 1972 copyright stamped just behind Batman in the cockpit-a signature detail of its earliest release. The car boasts strong color, rubber wheels with white tin hubs, and vivid red pinstriping along the sides and across the fins. Lightly faded red translucent lights and rocket exhaust add to its vintage character, while lithographed doors, hood, dashboards, and lower tail lights showcase the colorful design work of the era. Batman and Robin are depicted with painted plastic heads and tin upper bodies seated behind a green-tinted windshield. The battery compartment is clean, though the area around the battery door shows noticeable rust and scratching. The box, marked "NO. 5421," promotes "Battery Operated Mystery Action" and displays signs of age, including edge and corner wear, surface scratches, creases, and small tears, particularly along the back edge line and lower right corner. The cellophane window is creased with a small tear at the center right, and light soiling is visible on the back. The car has not been tested, so functionality cannot be guaranteed. A striking piece from the dawn of Batman's tin toy era in America, this Batmobile is a testament to the character's enduring appeal and AHI's signature style.Heritage Auctions provides as much information as possible but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
