Description

G.I. Joe Adventure Team Capture of the Pygmy Gorilla Adventure Set (Hasbro, 1973). First introduced in 1970 and reissued in subsequent Adventure Team waves, the Capture of the Pygmy Gorilla accessory set remains one of the most iconic and imaginative offerings from Hasbro's early 1970s G.I. Joe line. Combining jungle expedition gear with the high-concept drama of wild animal capture, the set included a net launcher, binoculars, jungle terrain accessories, and of course, the molded gorilla figure-allowing kids to stage daring missions deep in the uncharted wild.

This example is beautifully preserved inside its original display box, with the contents in excellent condition and perfect for showcasing a complete Adventure Team field operation. However, the box itself shows significant signs of wear from decades of storage and handling. Waviness is present on most panels, likely from exposure to moisture. The edges and corners exhibit heavy wear and softening. Surface scuffing is widespread, and the reverse of the box displays the most damage: large surface tears, a major rip, a smaller hole, additional tearing along the right edge, and visible water staining. Despite the exterior condition, complete boxed examples of this classic Adventure Team set remain increasingly difficult to find, especially with intact contents. For collectors focused on 1970s Joe history, jungle-themed displays, or signature Adventure Team missions, this set offers excellent presentation value and nostalgic weight-delivering one of the most memorable chapters from the early Joe wilderness adventures.
