Vintage gelatin silver semi-gloss 8" x 10" studio release photograph of Lon Chaney in London After Midnight by Wallace Chewning. Production number 330-51 in India ink in the negative. Considered the most tantalizing of lost films, London After Midnight survives only as still photography. Chaney was unique in manifesting the darker, malignant side of men's souls, not so often in disguise as completely disappearing into the Other. Creating his own make-up, Chaney's capped teeth visage sent audiences shrieking, riveted by the repellant magnetism of the hideous demon.
