Description

BG-287 Grateful Dead 1971 Fillmore West Concert Poster Signed by David Singer. This first-printing poster celebrates the final shows at Bill Graham's Fillmore West in San Francisco from June 30 to July 4, 1971, featuring the Grateful Dead, Boz Scaggs, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Santana and Creedence Clearwater Revival, among many others. Poster has been beautifully signed by its designer, David Singer.

This was it: the closing week of the Bay Area concert mecca, and the end of an era. A hugely popular poster for that reason, plus its gorgeous blue artwork by David Singer and its stellar line-up of talent. This was actually printed after the week of shows, not before, created as a gift for promoter Graham by designer Singer. As such, its print run was very limited (probably around 1,000) and no postcard version was made, so if you want to have an authentic, original strike of this masterwork printed at the time, you have to have the full poster.

To top things off, the poster was printed in double size, so it has quite a commanding presence, as powerful as any BG poster ever run. The Art of Rock editors were so impressed they gave it nearly 2/3 of a page in the book, an honor reserved for only two other BG posters in the entire run (every other poster was usually 12 to a page).

Did we already say "to top things off"? No, that would be the presence of artist David Singer's attractive signature in the lower right. If any Bill Graham poster ever called out to be signed...

Measures 27 7/8 x 22" and is graded to Near Mint Minus condition for two slightly dinged corners on the right side, both creating one little corner crease, and a very slight bump to the center left margin. COA from Heritage Auctions.
