Made of gray tweed wool; the jacket collarless, five button front closure, nipped-in waist, three-quarter sleeves, decorative 'criss-cross' belt on back, label reads "1-69-I-1214 / A724-22 / L. Elizabeth Burns (Lauren Bacall)
skirt suit by Charles LeMaire
This skirt suit was worn by the character "Elizabeth Burns," portrayed by actress Lauren Bacall, in the 1954 motion picture, "Woman's World." The outfit consists of a gray and beige wool suit jacket with ¾ length sleeves, self belted back, faux tortoise buttons down the front, and matching skirt with pleated back. The interior of the skirt has a sewn-in costumer's label with the name "L. Bacall" handwritten in black ink with assorted production information.
Ms. Bacall wore the garments in several scenes throughout the film and in promotional images for the production. Also included is a costume test photo showing the actress wearing the outfit next to a test board with production information "#1A, Sc. 16 - 17, Int. Burn's Apt."
The wardrobe was custom made for Ms. Bacall's use by famed costume designer Charles LeMaire, who worked on such other films as, "All About Eve," "The Seven Year Itch," "Three Coins In The Fountain," "The King And I," and countless others. Mr. LaMaire was instrumental in persuading the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to institute a costume design Oscar and won three Academy Awards for Best Costume Design over the course of his career.
The garments are in very good vintage screen worn condition and are accompanied by a letter of authenticity. Presented by The Golden Closet, your premier source for iconic screen used wardrobe, props, and music entertainment memorabilia.
