Description
Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant 1972 Ludwigshafen, Germany Concert Poster. An original large paper advertising poster for Jethro Tull playing at the Friedrich Ebert-Halle on Wednesday, January 26, 1972. It's not often you see Ludwigshafen on a German concert poster, but it's a city on the Rhine right across from Mannheim. As for Friedrich Ebert-Halle, it's a venue that holds about 2,250 patrons and has also played host to The Who and The Kinks.Very unusually, the concert information down below was drafted in by hand, very neatly. Somebody must've spent at least a half-hour doing this, so there can't have been very many posters made for this stop on the tour.
Speaking of tours, this was still the Aqualung tour for Tull, which many consider their creative apex. But they were surely already doing material from their classic Thick as a Brick, because that album would be released in just a few weeks' time.
Note: Many European concert posters were "knocked off," or reproduced, at a later date to be sold in stores and such. This is an absolute pre-show first printing of this poster.
Measures 23 1/2" x 33" and grades to Very Good condition. One thumbtack hole and halo in each corner, the lower right one affecting the "0" in "10." There's also a 4 ½" horizontal crease right off Anderson's shoulder, which breaks the color a little bit. Toning throughout, both sides. COA from Heritage Auctions.
