A DEFINING CONCERT IN THE HISTORY OF THE ROLLING STONES: THE FIRST SINCE BRIAN JONES' PASSING.

The Rolling Stones Hyde Park, London UK Concert Souvenir Poster, Newspaper and Photographs (1969). Collection of vintage material relating to the Rolling Stone's historic free concert at London's Hyde Park, on July 5, 1969. Including (1) color souvenir poster commemorating the Rolling Stones' free concert at Hyde Park, measuring 19.5" x 29.75", the poster printed by the Evening Standard on thin-stock paper with bright red and blue coloring, the O's and I in Rolling Stones replaced with red flowers. As a free concert with no official concert posters produced prior to the event, this souvenir poster is all that fans could obtain from this momentous and emotionally charged event. The concert took place just two days after the death of their former bandmate Brian Jones, and marked the first appearance of Mick Taylor as part of their lineup. The free concert was attended by over 250,000 fans and emphatically showed the band's enduring appeal in one of its darkest moments. Together with (1) July 5, 1969 souvenir edition of the Evening Standard newspaper with the headline "Stones In The Park"; (1) Musicians Enclosure backstage pass for the Stones at the Park, measuring 8" x 4", designed and printed by Blue Egg Ltd; (1) newspaper ad cutting measuring 8" x 10" where the Stones "love and thank" "everyone who played" and "everyone who came"; and (27) photographs of the historic occasion, including vintage photos of views from or in front of the main stage, measuring 3.5" x 5"; later black and white press photos of the Rolling Stones and the crowd, the largest measuring 9" x 11.75", and later color photos of Mick jagger, measuring 8.5" x 11". In Rolling Stones 50, Mick Jagger recalls the gravity of the show's circumstances and the conflicted emotions around the future of the band: "It was a challenge to go out and play for all those people. I think we were pleased to get out and play with somebody else, because we'd been like a horse with three legs. The bad part was that Brian wasn't there any more, which was really sad." Literature: The Rolling Stones at 50, 2012, p. 194 (poster illustrated). Poster exhibits visible handling wear including tape wear to the top edge and corners, light soiling or splitting along the edges. Photographs offered without copyright. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
