THE ALBUM CONTAINING THE FIRST RELEASE OF "SURPRISE SURPRISE", SIGNED BY THE ROLLING STONES

The Rolling Stones Signed Decca 14 Great Artists Compilation UK Mono LP (Decca LK 4695, 1965). Vintage original UK mono 12" vinyl pressing of the compilation album released on May 22, 1965, by Decca Records, showcasing some of its most popular artists signed to the label. In addition to the Rolling Stones, the artists include Billy Fury, Tom Jones, Lulu and the Luvers, and the Zombies, among others. Signed to the reverse in blue ballpoint by Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman, and Charlie Watts. Vinyl with red labels in plain inner sleeve. Decca's 14 Great Artists offers a fascinating snapshot of the British pop music landscape at the moment the Rolling Stones were breaking through. Rock 'n' roll heavyweights like Van Morrison's Them and The Zombies appear alongside contrasting acts such as Mike Leander's studio orchestra and the polished Irish pop trio The Bachelors. Tom Jones was still ascending, having scored his first major hit just months earlier with "It's Not Unusual." And opening the album on side one, track one, was "Surprise Surprise," a Rolling Stones track that would later appear on the U.S.-only album The Rolling Stones, Now!, but remained exclusive to this compilation in the UK until it resurfaced as the B-side to "Street Fighting Man" in 1971. Musically, "Surprise Surprise" is a brisk, Merseybeat-inspired tune that hints at the themes of teenage angst the band would soon develop more fully in classics like "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." Sleeve exhibits handling wear, creases and light soiling, and the disc exhibits light scratches. Comes with a full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services and PSA/DNA.
