Description

Paul Butterfield Blues Band 1966 Town Hall, New York City Concert Poster. An original 1966 glossy paper concert poster for the Butterfield Blues Band performing at New York City's prestigious Town Hall on Saturday night, November 26, 1966.

This poster is unusually attractive because it started out as a full-color Elektra Records promo poster for the group's second album, East-West. Butterfield's management or the promoter realized they could get a large, captivating concert poster out of the deal by merely paying for some red ink and having the concert information over-printed into the blank white space. We're sure Elektra gave them as many of the promo posters as they wanted. But still, how many could they have made this way... 25? Even 50 seems like a stretch.

We've seen this happen before with Elektra Records promo posters, which always featured plenty of white space at the bottom. What comes to mind is a Doors Philadelphia concert poster from 1968 made from their second-album promo poster, Strange Days.

This first-ever Heritage offering measures 19 3/8" x 28 5/8" and grades to Very Good Plus condition. Poster was originally folded down into eighths to fit in a mailing envelope, and of course the creases remain in the glossy surface. They're not bad and don't harm the poster's integrity, but notice the color is broken in a couple of places, such as in the musician's red sweater and along the bottom of the letters "BUTTE" in "Butterfield." Otherwise just typical light handling creases to the glossy paper. From the Archives of Charlie Rothschild. COA from Heritage Auctions.
