Description

Bruce Springsteen 1974 Austin, TX Armadillo Concert Poster Signed by Artist Jim Franklin (AOR-4.165). "The Boss", as he came to be known, was hardly a household name in 1974, when the bearded Bruce Springsteen played at the Armadillo World Headquarters, in Austin, Texas. With only two less-than-stellar selling albums to his name at the time (Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. and The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle), he was just another scruffy rocker, although one loaded with talent and promise. This original first-printing poster, with its odd Jim Franklin illustration (clearly, the artist had no idea how to present Springsteen, other than this dada-style drawing), has been signed by Franklin down under his printed credit, 16 years after the fact, but now 35 years ago at this point.

Measures 11 1/2" x 17 1/2" and grades to Very Good condition. This poster was once framed, probably for a long time. Artist Jim Franklin's signature, complete with the year he signed it (1990), has faded from exposure to light, probably to about half of its original strength. There is framing tape on the verso, along the top edge and upper two corners, which is peeking over the poster's top edge so slightly visible from the front. There is 'framing burn' around all four margins, where the outer edges of the poster were hidden from light under the framing mat. The rest of the poster has general toning throughout. The verso has four little brown stains which do not show through on the poster's front. COA from Heritage Auctions.
