Description

Bob Dylan-related 1963-64 Hootenanny Folk-Music Magazines (2). A pair of different folk-music magazines born out of the New York-based folk craze of the early 1960's. This lot consists of:

• Volume 1, Number 1 - dated December 1963 - of Hootenanny - The National Folk Singing Magazine. Peter, Paul & Mary are on the cover, and Bob Shelton was the editor - he who famously gave Bob Dylan a great review in the New York Times in 1961 which helped launch Dylan's career. The extent of Dylan coverage in this issue is a two-page spread with his photo and a long prose called "Blowin' in the Wind." It starts off with, "It ain't no use in talkin' about folk music," and ends hundreds of words later with, "Forget about the talkers - They'll always be around - You won't."

• Volume 1, Number 3 - dated July 1964 - of ABC-TV Hootenanny Show. Canada's Ian & Sylvia are on the cover, and interviews with Carolyn Hester and Phil Ochs are included. The extent of Dylan coverage are a picture of him in a Marshall Brickman story on the music industry, and Dylan's third album included in a Columbia Records ad on the back cover.

Both magazines measure a shade under 8 ½" x 11" and grade to Very Good condition, with the expected toning to the pages, scuffing & grime to the covers, and occasional little edge tears.
