Description

Alice Cooper, Canned Heat 1972 Phoenix, AZ Concert Poster. Silver poster for an Alice Cooper show at a dirt track racing facility in Phoenix. With a brand new record out on the streets for a few weeks before this show called School's Out, Alice Cooper was still the name of a group fronted by Vincent Furnier (who also went by the name Alice Cooper), and featuring guitarists Glen Buxton and Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway, and drummer Neal Smith.

For this show at the Manzanita Speedway (with Canned Heat as the opener), it was billed as "The Alice Cooper Show Starring Alice Cooper." By then, the band was full on with their theatrics, with the character of Alice as rock 'n' roll's villain. With electric chairs, snakes, and a guillotine, you weren't going to see this at a Led Zeppelin show or a Rolling Stones show. It was pure camp theater, but audiences loved it. (It also helped the group wrote sharp hooks with their blues/British Invasion-inspired tunes.)

The town of Phoenix is a special place for the group, as that's where they formed. Four of the five of them ran cross-country at Cortez High School and they decided to get a group together. After a few name changes, per Dunaway's recollection in his memoir, Furnier suggested "Alice Cooper" as their permanent name. They would eventually leave town to make a career, and they struck gold with their 1971 album, Love It to Death.

Measures 17 ½" x 22 ½". In Very Good condition with fold marks, scuffs, creasing, and edge wear. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
