Description

Rumble Fish (Zoetrope, 1983), Custom-Bound Shooting Script with Inlaid B&W Studio and BTS Photos, Press Clippings, and Annotated Industry Notes. Original shooting script, studio photocopy dated July 11, 1982, with revision pages dated August 25, 1982. Custom-bound in black leather with gold-embossed title on the front and spine, and producer Fred Roos' name at lower right front. The title page features "Fred Roos" handwritten in red pen, "Marked" highlighted in yellow, and "8.25.82" written in graphite on the first page. Rumble Fish was Francis Ford Coppola's follow-up to The Outsiders and his second cinematic foray into the world of S.E. Hinton. Centering on Rusty James (Matt Dillon), a troubled teen trying to live up to the myth of his older brother, "The Motorcycle Boy" (Mickey Rourke), the film captures adolescence through a surreal, stylized lens. Coppola's use of high-contrast black-and-white photography and impressionistic camerawork emphasizes the extreme subjectivity of its characters, offering a raw, noir-infused exploration of youth, identity, and disillusionment. Scattered throughout the bound script are black-and-white studio photographs of Matt Dillon and Mickey Rourke, as well as behind-the-scenes images featuring Fred Roos, Matt Dillon, Rourke, Diane Lane, and Francis Ford Coppola. Included are additional press materials, reviews, and letters from members of the film industry, many annotated and highlighted by Fred Roos. A standout inclusion is a 10-page typewritten letter from Lisa Jane Persky offering suggestions for dialogue, with handwritten annotations in the margins. An artful and comprehensive production archive from Coppola's bold and experimental teen drama- considered one of his most visually daring works of the 1980s. Item exhibits fading, wear and age. The poster is for reference only and is not included with this lot. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From the Estate of Fred Roos.
