Description

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (TCF, 1977), Group of (4) Broken 35mm Theatrical Film-Print Splices (ca. 1976). Original group of (4) strips of spliced 35mm film printed on Fujicolor safety celluloid, totaling over 100 frames, each capturing early sequences from George Lucas's first entry in the Star Wars saga, including (1) strip measuring approx. 42" long featuring an alternate version of the title sequence, with block-logo "Star Wars" lettering set against a starry background that transitions into an explosion, bearing a copyright date of 1976 beneath the title, (1) strip measuring approx. 32" long, with the same block-letter "Star Wars" logo set against a star field, (1) strip measuring approx. 17" long, depicts Stormtroopers running across the screen inside the Death Star docking bay, with the Millennium Falcon visible in the background and (1) strip measuring approx. 32" long, featuring the same sequence. This rare set of early Star Wars film fragments offers a unique glimpse into the film's pre-release development and the early collaboration between George Lucas and Fred Roos. Each strip has been spliced at the top and bottom with diagonal cuts and shows notable wear, including fading, a dominant red tone, extreme curling, significant folding, surface scuffing, and tape residue from earlier splices. The poster is for reference only and is not included with this lot. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From the Estate of Fred Roos.
