Description

The Godfather Part II (Paramount, 1974) Francis Ford Coppola, Fred Roos, and Creative Team Photo from Sicily Shoot (ca. 1974). Vintage original framed black-and-white photograph printed on silver gelatin matte double-weight paper, measuring 12.5" x 19.5" (sight) in a 21.5" x 15" Plexiglass frame with fumed and beveled wooden molding. Taken on location in Sicily during the production of The Godfather Part II, this rare and historic image captures the core creative team behind one of the most celebrated films in cinema history. Pictured together on set during the filming of the young Don Vito Corleone's (Robert De Niro) return to his homeland, the photo is a powerful visual document of the artistic collaboration that defined this landmark production. From left to right, the standing figures are: Randy Carter (assistant director), Carmine Coppola (composer), Dick Smith (makeup artist), Dean Tavoularis (production designer), Bill Gereghty (assistant cameraman), Gordon Willis (cinematographer), Ralph Gerling (sound mixer), Fred Roos (producer), and Gray Fredrickson (co-producer). Seated in front are Bobby Rose (location manager) and Francis Ford Coppola (writer and director). The reverse of the frame includes a typewritten caption listing each name and identifying the moment as "GODFATHER PART II - SICILY JUNE, 1974." A remarkable group portrait of what is unquestionably one of the most accomplished creative teams ever assembled, captured at the height of their collaborative power on one of the greatest sequels ever made. Item exhibits age, fading, and display wear, with a light tear in the photo in the top center, including minor bumped corners, flaking paint to the frame edges, and general signs of handling. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From the Estate of Fred Roos.
