Description

Forbidden Planet (MGM, 1956), Force Field Generator Post Component. Vintage original prop Force Field Generator Post component constructed of clear lathed acrylic in the shape of a three-dimensional triangle, with 2-beveled edges and 1-flat edge. Measures 7" x 7" x .75. This component was one of several free-standing posts that created the force field fence system protecting the starship C-57 in the ground-breaking science fiction film, Forbidden Planet. Component was one of several affixed to the generator post on the flat edge with an adhesive; a lighting system inside the post would create a reflecting pattern on the acrylic shapes when plugged in, creating the force field effect. Forbidden Planet was monumental in its contributions to the development of science fiction filmmaking, including its use of practical effects combined with animation. This piece comes from the collection of Academy Award winning makeup director Robert Short, whose filmography includes Beetlejuice, Cocoon, and Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Exhibits expected signs of production use, handling, and age, including scuffs and scratches to the acrylic with signs of adhesive residue present to the flat edge. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
