Description

The Crucible (1925), Erich von Stroheim Original Typewritten Treatment and Related Documents. Vintage original group of (4) documents relating to an unproduced project called The Crucible by Erich von Stroheim, the visionary director of the silent era, including (1) 22-page (as paginated) original typewritten treatment containing a character list and outline of the plot and themes, staple-bound inside light-blue legal-sized wraps with typewritten title and byline and handwritten, "FROM BEN WESTLAND / 1826 GARFIELD PLACE / HE 4236" on the cover, (1) State of California Department of State registration certificate for the project, type-dated May 13, 1925 and signed by state commissioners with corresponding stamps, (1) accompanying Department of State bill of sale receipt on carbon-copy pink paper, stipulating $5.00 payment for filing the registration, stamped "PAID / May 13 1925", and (1) undated yellow notepad sheet with handwritten pencil notations reading, "W.H. Mooring / 101 North La Peer Drive / Los Angeles / 6X 9441". William H. Mooring was a British-born film critic who covered the early Hollywood era and wrote syndicated columns for several Roman Catholic newspapers. All materials exhibit expected signs of age and wear for paper materials of this age, though wonderfully preserved, including folds and creased, minor chips and edgewear, and some folded corners on the Great Seal stamp. Overall, items are dutifully and carefully preserved. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
