Description
Duke Ellington 1970 Chicago, IL Jumbo Concert Poster, President Nixon Mentioned. A commanding jumbo cardboard window card selling tickets for Sir Duke himself, Duke Ellington, in concert for "One Big Night" at the High Chaparral theater in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, March 25, 1970. Check out that fun wording from 51 years ago: "Gents Wear Collar and Tie - Ladies Wear Your 'Thing'... Mink - Gowns - Mini or Maxie." We're guessing jeans were probably not admitted. Note: there's no damage to Duke Ellington's photo, it was a very weak printing job. Measures 22" x 28" and grades to Very Good Plus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.More Information: 1970 was the year Duke released his album New Orleans Suite, which featured the last appearance of longtime Ellington saxophonist Johnny Hodges. This show was in March, that album was recorded in April and May, and Mr. Hodges passed away during the album's recording. The record went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Performance by a Big Band.
Another poster found in the stash of Chicago posters printed back in the day and kept in clean storage all these decades.
Condition details: Has foxing all along the top portion, a bumped corner, creasing in the bottom center portion, and a ¼" spot of tearing/loss next to the "Spend."
