Description

Ray Charles 1963 Regal Theater Chicago, IL Jumbo Concert Poster. An original cardboard advertising window card for "The Genius" playing at the esteemed Regal Theatre in Chicago for a full week commencing on Friday, July 12, 1963. This red, white & blue board features a great, and very sharply printed, photo of Brother Ray smiling, greatly enhancing the presentation. The bill is nicely rounded out by The Flamingos ("I Only Have Eyes for You"), R&B legend Percy Mayfield (composer of "Hit the Road, Jack") and Little Jimmy Scott (not only Ray but Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington and Frankie Valli all loved him). Measures 22" x 28" and grades to Near Mint Minus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Ray was riding high on a commercial peak bigger than any other in his career. The previous year, when he first merged R&B and country music, he had wiped the charts clean with the Top 10 pop hits "I Can't Stop Loving You," "You Don't Know Me" and "You Are My Sunshine." Then in '63, on either side of this engagement, he went Top 10 pop with "Take These Chains from My Heart" in the spring and Top 5 pop with "Busted" in the fall. Throw in his other charters like "Born to Lose," "Careless Love," "That Lucky Old Sun" and "Your Cheating Heart," and... do you think Ray might've played some important music this week?

Condition details: Has some creasing/bumping in the upper corners, along with light toning along the right side.
