MR. DYNAMITE ABOUT TO EXPLODE COMMERCIALLY

James Brown and the Flames 1960 Klamath Falls, OR "Try Me" Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising the Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown, performing with his revue at the main Auditorium in Klamath Falls, Oregon on Wednesday evening, February 10, 1960. A very classic boxing-style layout with block lettering conveying the basic information, photos of the musicians and song titles given as well. This template is very recognizable to fans of the Tilghman ("till-man") Press company in Oakland, CA.

Of the three JB song titles given, "Try Me" is the evergreen, of course, his first-ever #1 R&B hit from 1958 and still heard a lot to this day. "I've Got to Change" was a May 1959 A-side that did not chart, and likewise "Good, Good Loving" from October '59, both on Federal. But the Hardest Working Man in Showbiz was poised for takeoff: "Think" went Top 10 R&B for him a few months after this, and then 1961 would find him with three top-tenners, including "Bewildered."

Heritage has occasionally been able to auction 60-year-old JB posters of this ilk, but never this layout before. This first-ever Heritage offering measures 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: The four corner areas have typical light wear & tear, although no pin or tack holes (or tape residue). There's just the occasional diagonal creasing, and the lower left got somewhat ruffled along the bottom edge. The upper right diagonal crease catches the tip of the "M," but does not break the color. General toning throughout. And the verso has tape lifts in three areas from when it was originally posted.
