Description
Blind Faith (Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood) 1969 Honolulu, HI Concert Poster. An original paper concert poster for 60's rock supergroup Blind Faith performing at the HIC - Honolulu International Center - during their one & only tour, on Sunday, August 24, 1969. Interestingly, the group's only album, Blind Faith, was not released in time for the beginning of the tour, and had just entered Billboard magazine's album chart the previous week. So fans were not that familiar yet with classics like "Can't Find My Way Home" and "Had to Cry Today." But the new outfit was playing Cream and Traffic songs as well. Measures 22 1/2" x 17 1/2" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.More Information: This remains the only specimen of this poster that Heritage has ever seen. This exact poster was sold by us back in November 2022, and that buyer has decided to consign much of his collection to Heritage here in Spring 2024.
Sandwiched between Cream and Derek & the Dominos, this was Clapton's new project and an attempt to stand back from the spotlight a little and blend in with other star musicians. (Traffic's Steve Winwood was on keyboards and vocals, Cream's Ginger Baker manned the drums and Family's Ric Grech handled bass.) But it didn't work; the press still played up Eric's involvement and hounded his every move. As a result, Blind Faith is the answer to this trivia question: "Who is the only rock band in history to have their debut album go all the way to #1 on Billboard's Top LPs chart, and then break up without ever releasing another?"
The poster's unusual art shows a man with cup for either coffee, tea or begging, and the band members in a small circle wearing smiles and grins, a pretty rare depiction for this lot.
Condition details: Surface creasing and handling throughout, including a couple of light surface dings, but with none breaking color.
