Description
FD-88 Van Morrison 1967 Avalon Ballroom Concert Poster Graded 10 Gem Mint. First-and-only-printing San Francisco concert poster for Van Morrison, the Daily Flash and Hair playing at the Avalon Ballroom on Friday thru Sunday nights, October 20-22, 1967. Known as FD-88 in the Family Dog numbered series, this poster was designed by Wes Wilson and is nicknamed "Ohm." It's been graded a mystical, magical 10 Gem Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company).Van the Man had left Belfast, Ireland hitmakers Them the year before and was striking out on his own, enjoying strong initial success with the top 10 hit "Brown-Eyed Girl" this summer, thus his headlining status. The song is a true evergreen that you hear frequently to this day, eventually making its way into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and is considered Morrison's signature song. Measures 14 1/8" x 20". COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: For his poster, artist Wilson used Eastern religious symbolism in the form of the Ohm symbol for meditation, which Beatle George Harrison would pick up on as well.
The Daily Flash hailed from Seattle and shared a manager with Buffalo Springfield, but never broke through to any commercial success.
