Description
FD-85 Vanilla Fudge 1967 Avalon Concert Poster Signed by Mouse & Kelley, Graded 9.8. First-printing San Francisco concert poster for Vanilla Fudge and the Charles Lloyd Quartet playing at the Avalon Ballroom on Friday thru Sunday nights, September 29-October 1, 1967. Known as FD-85 in the Family Dog numbered series, this poster was designed by Alton Kelley but interestingly was signed by both Kelley and his partner at Mouse! Studio, Stanley Mouse. (One never knows how much discussing they might have done before Kelley put pen to paper.)Nicknamed "Dian," its central image is a vintage photo of a woman dressed in a transparent gown, bookended symmetrically by large Family Dog logos in orange. This is the first signed "Dian" that Heritage has ever offered. Measures 14" x 20" and graded to gorgeous 9.8 Near Mint/Mint condition by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: Vanilla Fudge's self-titled debut album, featuring their cover of the Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On," was in the national Top 20 right now and would peak at #6.
Interesting how the poster-artist credit reads "Mouse Studio!" in one place and "Kelley!" in another. You have to wonder if Kelley added an exclamation point to his name ("Mouse Studio!" always had one) as a slight tease or dig at his friend Mouse, or if Stanley actually requested he do that.
