Description
BG-4 Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver 1966 Early Fillmore Auditorium Handbill Graded 9.8. First-and-only-printing San Francisco concert handbill for the Jefferson Airplane (Friday only), Quicksilver Messenger Service (Saturday), Lightning Hopkins and the Jaywalkers playing at the Fillmore Auditorium on Friday and Saturday nights, April 29 & 30, 1966.This was very early for the Airplane, with Signe Anderson still in the band instead of Grace Slick. They had only one single released thus far - "It's No Secret"/"Runnin' 'Round This World" - and their debut album was still four months away. All adding greatly to the early innocence of this compelling, charming piece. Known as BG-4 in the Bill Graham numbered series, this flyer was designed by the dean of San Francisco psychedelic poster artists, Wes Wilson. Measuring 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", it's been graded a robust 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: Although this item is identified in the grading strip as "BG-4-OHB-A," there is no "-B" or any other variant; this handbill was printed only once, period. And Graham made no postcard of it, either.
