Grateful Dead, Big Mama Thornton 1968 Torrance, CA Concert Poster Graded 9.6 (AOR-3.91). An original first-printing concert poster for the Grateful Dead playing at The Bank in Torrance, California (in West L.A.) on Friday night, October 18, 1968. The poster doubles as an advertisement for Big Mama Thornton ("Hound Dog") playing the next night, and the Cleveland Wrecking Company was the opening band both nights. Printed on orange paper, this fun offering measures 13" x 18" and was graded a dino-sized 9.6 Near Mint Plus by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. More Information: This poster has some fun quirks to it, such as picturing two members of the Dead, three dinosaurs and a buffalo (the club's logo). They didn't need to identify Jerry Garcia or Mickey Hart up top (just the photographers), but they sure needed to identify the dino's.

The hobby's still buzzing about how in our July 2024 auction, a 9.9 copy of this beast sold for an extinction-event $18,750.
