MANY PEOPLE FEEL BOB MASSE'S FINEST HOUR

Grateful Dead 1967 Vancouver, B.C. Dante's Inferno Concert Poster Graded 9.6 (AOR-3.179). An original Canadian psychedelic concert poster for the Grateful Dead playing three nights in Vancouver, British Columbia in the middle of the Summer of Love. First the band played at the PNE Agrodome on July 13, supported by Daily Flash and the Love-Ins. They were then scheduled to play the following two nights at Dante's Inferno with opening acts the Collectors and Painted Ship. This poster was created by Canada's favorite son, Bob Masse, and graded a simmering hot 9.6 Near Mint Plus by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company).

Masse's sublime artwork has made this one of the most popular psychedelic posters of the era, always in demand and yet very scarce. Masse is considered Canada's leading psychedelic-poster artist ever, hands-down, and this could very well be his finest hour. The Art of Rock book thought so much of this image that they gave it a full page all to itself. Measures 13 3/4" x 21". From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock: Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.309 (full-page illus.).
