BG-89 Duane & Gregg Allman, Eric Burdon 1967 Fillmore Poster Signed by Burdon, Graded 9.6. First-and-only-printing San Francisco concert poster for Eric Burdon & the Animals, Mother Earth and the Hour Glass with Duane and Gregg Allman playing at the Fillmore Auditorium on Thursday thru Saturday nights, October 19-21, 1967. Known as BG-89 in the Bill Graham numbered series, this popular poster was designed by artist Bonnie MacLean, and has been autographed by Animals lead singer Eric Burdon. It was then graded to a lovely 9.6 Near Mint Plus by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). Measures 14" x 21". From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Any Hourglass ephemera is highly coveted by fans of the Allman Brothers Band, because guitar god Duane Allman and his teenage brother, blues-rock keyboardist Gregg Allman, were paying their dues in this early band. In a case of terrific timing, October 1967 was the very month that Liberty Records released both the Hourglass' debut album and single. The LP, just called Hour Glass, was almost all covers, penned by songwriters such as Jackson Browne, Carole King, Curtis Mayfield and Del Shannon. The single, "Nothing but Tears," failed to draw any attention at all. Everything would change forever two years later when Duane & Gregg signed to Capricorn Records and decided to just name their band after themselves.

As for Eric Burdon & the Animals, very appropriately, their latest hit single had been "San Franciscan Nights," hitting the Top 10 that summer (the Summer of Love). Next up? "Monterey," all about the famous pop festival that summer, to be released in a few weeks.

Mother Earth was a San Francisco band by way of Madison, Wisconsin, fronted by singer/songwriter Tracy Nelson. They shared the Avalon and Fillmore stages with the likes of the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix throughout the late 60's. From 1968-1973, Mother Earth released four albums on Mercury Records, two on Reprise and one on Columbia. Three of them made it onto Billboard's album chart, but not very high.
