Description
Tom Skerritt "Dallas" space suit ensemble from Alien. (TCF, 1979) Vintage original John Mollo Samurai inspired (8) piece ensemble including (1) huge, highly detailed distinctive eyeball shaped fiberglass helmet with rubber and metal components, domed clear acrylic faceplate nestled in the lidded, wedge light is affixed atop the helmet, which is memorable for illuminating the condensation dispensed from the top of the helmets by astronaut's breathing when they first set out to explore the alien planet, wired for lights, (electronics untested), measuring approx. 20 x 17 x 18 in., (1) air tank constructed of fiberglass shell over wood with polyfoam padded back covered in fabric, with metal, resin, acrylic and plastic components, flappable metal switches, affixed logo stickers, green web strap, and wired for electrical (untested), measuring approx. 18.5 x 14 x 9 in., weighs approx. 18 lbs., (1) salmon and crème collarless jacket with padded quilted torso and shoulders, salmon lace ribbon panels on sleeves with open panels with maroon and salmon pleated ribbon beneath crème rope lacing with internal plastic stays and shoe lace piping, with crème super padded lower sleeves, interior lined in salmon satin, with velcro and rope tie front closure, (1) pair matching super padded cargo pants with multicolor embroidered patch on rear, with drawstring and velcro front closure, (1) pair football style fiberglass shoulder pauldrons with 3-articulating plates embellished with metal nuts and bolts, (1) pair studio painted padded hockey gloves with knit panels and leather palms, lace closure at wrists (laces not present), (1) pair crème Sorel brand Snowcat boots, (1) cast fiberglass chest control box with rubber piping, green web strap and wooden back, expertly studio painted and distressed, measuring approx. 8.25 x 9 x 2.75 in., attaches to chest armor plate (not present). Also includes 1-6.5 x 1.5 in. metal pipe matching the paint on the tank and chest pieces. Made to look intentionally bulky and utilitarian rather than pretty, these suits innovated the gritty look of movie spacesuits in much the same way Star Wars made spaceships appear used and beat up. Exhibiting age, production wear, soiling, 1-shoulder armor plates original attachment reduced to wiring barely holding together, air tank polyfoam is deteriorating, all highly studio distressed.
