Description

Halloween Betamax 1979 - VGA 85 NM+, Slipcase, Flatback Seal, Two Tone Tape, Rear Vertical Yellow Media Watermarks, Media Home Entertainment. The word grail gets thrown around a lot, but this 1979 Media Halloween Beta is a true home video grail. The gaudy yet beautiful orange, green, yellow and blue racetrack design frames the iconic Bob Gleason pumpkin and curved knife art that evokes more of a 1970's 8-track design than the VHS cover styles that would dominate the next decade. Only a few sealed copies of this particular release are known to exist on Beta or VHS in the collecting community, which is not surprising considering that this release was on store shelves in 1979, back when far fewer copies of home video releases were being produced! For a horror fan or a home video collector it doesn't get much better or more rare than this beautiful VGA 85 NM+ copy, with a Box subgrade of 85 and a seal subgrade of 85. This copy grades slightly higher than the one we sold last year in our October 2022 Horror Auction. That copy received the same overall grade of 85 NM+and Box subgrade of 85, but it's Seal was graded an 80.

In 1978 director John Carpenter set the bar against which all slasher movies would be measured against and launched a franchise that is still going strong almost 45 years later. Carpenter and his co-writer Debra Hill crafted a scary, visceral and thrilling story of a silent, unstoppable masked boogeyman mercilessly stalking a group of teenage girls on Halloween night. The end result is a modern film that can stand proudly next to the best of Hitchcock and Val Lewton. Since its 1978 release Halloween spawned ten sequels! And much like its masked killer, the franchise keeps rising again and again.
