John Landis' 1981 horror-comedy centers on two young American backpackers who are attacked by a werewolf in northern England after ignoring a warning to stay off the moors. Only one survives the brutal attack. Soon after he begins to suffer from recurrent nightmares and hallucinations involving his dead friend who tells him he'll also become a werewolf on the next full moon. Lauded for its amazing practical makeup effects and a werewolf transformation scene that is still considered the greatest of all-time, Rick Baker received the inaugural Academy Award for Best Makeup.
