Nike Air Force 1 MID Kobe Bryant Bespoke Lakers Home 1 of 1 - The Air Force 1 is one of Nike's most significant and iconic models, it was the first basketball shoe to introduce Nike Air Cushioning back in 1982. Designed by Bruce Kilgore, this was his first attempt at designing a basketball shoe and was named after the plane which the President of the United States travels. The shoe has striking features which really sets it apart when it first released.

The Bespoke program was first launched in 2008, which was scheduled by appointment only within their 21 Mercer flagship store in Soho, New York. The workshop gave customers the ability to put their own spinoff to the Air Force 1 silhouette, sitting one on one with a design consultant to help walk through the process and provide recommendations as to how they can bring what the customer has in mind and make it happen. The Bespoke program gave customers customization control to change most parts of the silhouette to choose all kinds of materials and color options. The only models that were available to customize were the Air Force 1 low / highs and the Air Max 1.

Before Kobe Bryant had started his professional career in the NBA he was signed with Adidas until 2002 when he decided that he no longer wanted to be a part of the brand. The buyout had a condition that he was unable to sign a deal with a brand for a whole year. During his sneaker free agency, Kobe was gifted all kinds of Player Exclusives to lace up on the court and to influence him to sign a deal with the brands. Kobe Bryant really liked the Air Force 1 silhouette, he would wear them on and off the court. What makes this particular shoe so special is that Kobe sent in a request to the Bespoke program to have the original 2002 Lakers Player Exclusive remade for him. Tags in the shoe and the underside of the box explicitly state that they were made for Kobe Bryant, this is a 1 of 1 design.
