The game is based on Peter Jackson's incredibly popular The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. At the time of its release, this machine featured the highest possible score multiplier in pinball: During a combined "Two Towers" and "Gollum" multi-ball, it is possible to achieve 84x Jackpot. It is the first game specifically developed to use an "interim" Whitestar MPU board system with a 16-bit sound system. The pinball playfield offers special features like: Moving balrog with built-in flashlamp that blocks center ramp at times. A tower that "collapses" on certain scoring features.
